Readycall: Volunteer Information
Contact: Penny Smith or Glynis Ainley on 01335 348600 readycall@vcdd.org.uk. Based in our Ashbourne office.
Readycall uses local volunteers to do odd jobs for local people - and to befriend them.
Our area covers Ashbourne and Wirksworth, the larger villages of Brailsford, Doveridge, Hartington, Hulland and Longford - together with the smaller villages, hamlets, and countryside that makes up the Southern Derbyshire Dales.
Typical Volunteering jobs:
- Escorting an older person to the shops - reaching the top shelves and carrying the shopping makes the outing possible
- Using your good eyesight to help someone who sees less well: choosing story tapes, sewing curtains, making tea and making friends
- Freshening up a rooms with a coat of paint for someone who spends all day there
- Helping with all those odd jobs around the house - fixing a shelf or grab rail, defrosting the freeer, changing a lightbulb: you name it, we do it!
Becoming a volunteer helps you get to know people in your own community, and enjoy the satisfaction of helping others. You can volunteer for a few hours each week, or you might offer a specific skill that we can call on from time to time.
Our volunteers are paid a mileage allowance for any travelling they do in their Readycall work. We keep in touch with our volunteers to provide support and advice.
